The Journey

MrSativa Here...

I decided it was time to make a storefront for my dildo making adventures. It makes sense to me to start out by making a post detailing the long journey into how we got to this point.

The Background

Ok, starting out where all good stories should. Right at the beginning. A few years ago, we really got into the wonderful world of platinum silicone toys. MrsSativa had only had one or two run of the mill sex store dildos before and wasn’t a big fan of the overall feel and experience. They were too firm, too uncomfortable to use, and rarely looked good. On our wonderful exhibitionist journey, we found some creators when we started posting on Reddit who were using Bad Dragon and other “Fantasy” style toys, and were very intrigued by what we saw. So, not wanting to lay out a small fortune for a big question mark, we took to Etsy (RIP Etsy custom toy makers, you were the best), and ordered some tamer ones. This is a very elongated way of saying “Mrs found out penetrative toys can be fun if they’re high quality”.

Fast forward a little bit, with the newfound love of dildos, we bought several different “realistic” toys in Mrs’ preferred materials, density, and hardness. The preferred material was always platinum silicone, the density and hardness was almost always soft. Finding out dildos could be fun, coupled with loving MrSativa's cock, led to one natural conclusion: the purchase of a Clone-A-Willy kit.

Clone-A-Willy, and why this was a bad idea

It seems our experience here isn’t unique, and if we’d had any foresight wouldn’t have been so unexpected. The excitement quickly turned into a big “oh shit” moment damn near as soon as it was out of the package. The instructions are vast, and somehow still not the clearest. The huge tube suddenly doesn’t feel so huge (in circumference) when you jokingly stick your dick in and realize that you’ve got to fit the molding solution in there too. Then there’s the timing of everything. It’s very much a two person job, and not for the faint of heart (or boner).

In our time, we’ve had two Clone-A-Willy kits and one Clone-A-Pussy. Let’s get the fun out of the way first. The C-A-P worked well. It was a little difficult to keep her labia parted fully to get in the mold, but ultimately it turned out. The method of attaching it to the fleshlight sucked, though, and it’s ended up being a fun lil ornament that sits in a drawer. But, that’s not why you’re reading this.

The first Clone-A-Willy was a disaster. I don’t believe we even got my dick in the tube before it all went wrong. The temperature guide for the water was a nightmare, and trying to science it up while keeping rock hard was impossible. Eventually, we got there. The mixture was too cold, I could barely get it up in time, and we ended with a sad, barely dick like imprint. Back to the drawing board. More time passed, and we got it again. This time; temp was right, dick was hard, tube was cut correctly, everything. Boom, into the mold we go and…my head is touching the tube. Pull out, jam back in, we’re getting soft. Ok. This one looks more like a mold of a very confused cock. Not good enough to pour silicone into. One more trip to the store to buy extra molding powder, another unsuccessful attempt, and the pipe dream was over. I know they changed their general layout over time, because there was still a “XXL” version available when we first bought a kit. But that tube is narrower than it seems, and trying to fill it well, get it on, and make sure you’re not touching the sides at all is a nightmare. The way the powder goes means you have to be perfectly aligned and one shot press it in PERFECTLY.

As it so turns out, almost ALL reviews of the Clone-A-Willy are negative when it comes to actually getting a safe and usable product. Even if you have less difficulty making the mold than we did. There’s a few reasons for this, including:

  • The powder being almost too quick set, giving no opportunity to reposition even the slightest bit
  • The provided silicone being ROCK hard, and uncomfortable for penetration (touched on later)
  • Not getting enough silicone in the standard kit for anything much bigger than 6” even with the vibrator to displace it
  • The lack of degassing the silicone (a recent learning, and part of why giving these out is a lot further off than initially thought)

The First Attempts

Fast forward a couple years down the line, and we’re sitting a couple of weeks ago. I jokingly mentioned the idea of getting a Clone-A-Willy again to the triad, only it wasn’t taken as such. I was met with enthusiasm for creating a mold of me, and the cogs began turning. Research provided me with the little summary at the end of the C-A-W section, so I knew I had to do something differently. I didn’t feel like providing more income to the company, and from all I’d read, for someone my size with my prior issues, a DIY approach was better suited. I dread to think how shady I looked anxiously gathering supplies from craft stores, but we got there. I found we needed molding material (body safe alginate), a vessel to mold out of, and some platinum silicone. Maybe a cock ring too, which we luckily had laying around. What we ended up with was:

  • A big “Smart Water” bottle. Measured to give an inch or so beyond my full erect length, with the cut end taped over to not cut my delicate pubic area.
  • “Perfect Mold” body safe alginate powder
  • Some “mold making” platinum silicone from Michael’s

Here’s a little step-by-step breakdown of what followed, only written as a guide for what we did:

  1. Take a viagra and prepare a cock ring/tie
  2. Get as hard as you can ahead of time, and measure and cut the molding vessel to size. You want to give yourself about an inch or so over what you need.
  3. Soften the edge you cut. It will cut your pubic area, or god forbid, your scrotum. We used electrical tape.
  4. Measure the molding material out ahead of time (First lesson: make MORE than you think you need. It’s the second cheapest and most readily available component of this process, and each bag should net at least two attempts, maybe three if you’re smaller/using a lesser vessel).
  5. Get rock hard again, and slide on the cock ring.
  6. Use warm-hot water to make the molding powder into the molding solution. It sets faster, and is much more pleasurable. It takes about a minute or two of mixing to get it all together.
  7. You’ll have lost some steam from a minute or two of nothing/just masturbating while a partner frantically mixes, so get it back as close as you can to maximum erection, and reposition the cock ring
  8. Fill the vessel with the solution, and insert
  9. Hold for as long as you can, up to 5 minutes. Have the helping hand give as much of a helping hand as is possible with the money maker trapped in a plastic case of emotion and alginate.
  10. After the time has passed or you’ve softened up enough, remove.
  11. Let the mold cure for another few minutes. Prep the silicone at this time by mixing the two parts equally til they’re fully incorporated with one another
  12. Slowly pour in the silicone, and let it set for 30 minutes
  13. Remove the silicone from the mold

And voila, it’s as easy as that, right? Not quite. The natural anatomy of Mr (scrotum joining shaft quite far down, huge balls) meant that all of the member didn’t get captured. Yeah, it’s probably accurate for the full “insertable” portion of me, but, not quite. My first thought was “that looks smaller”, and holding it against myself proved I was right. So, back to the drawing board there. The silicone was also much harder than expected. Certainly not as unusable as some, but more the consistency of one of the hard, cheap “jelly”/PVC dildos. Back to the drawing board there, too. And, it was shortly after making this that I learned of why the good custom toy makers talk about degassing. More on that to follow.

But, at this point, you should be left with a decent clone of yourself that’s more than usable, albeit not perfect, and potentially less safe than one from a reputable high-end toy manufacturer. Again, more on that to follow.

We progressed to trying to adapt the vessel to have something to capture part of my balls, so the end product can stand up on its own and the whole length of me could be captured. We found an old Sweet Martha’s pail, cut a hole in the bottom and halved the height of it, and followed the same steps. This time, we absolutely used enough material, but neglected to account for the laws of physics. The dick went in fine, the balls went in fine, and the space around everything let ALL solution fall out. Back to the drawing board for a more modest, ball exclusionary mold.

The Perfect Mold and Clone

A new molding vessel was made. This time, it was the better shaped 'Body Armor' large SportsWater bottle, and PerfectMold seemed to be the best of the few alginate powders we tried, The bottle was sized and cut to have sufficient room all the way around for if the angle of entry wasn’t perfect, and to give me about an additional 3/4 inch at the bottom. Warmer water was my friend.  The attempt that finally got the most accurate plaster master involved perfect measurements, pretty hot water, a viagra, a silicone cock tie, and a partner to mix and be penetrated until the alginate was ready. The “final” plaster master was made using ~13oz of perfect cast, and leaving to air dry for 24 hours. After that, the divot from the cock ring (which had slipped down a little) was smoothed over. My NBP length with a viagra roaring is about 6 7/8”, and this model stands just under 7” accounting for the tiny area of my pubic region that was captured. Obviously, it would be impossible to capture the full 7 3/4” BP length in any accurate capacity save for using a much more custom vessel. The final plaster model was then sealed and a glove mold was made using 3 coats of Smooth-On's Rebound25. The final mold was then ready for casting, and the first successful toy was made.

Safety First

Now is the time for a slight detour and reveal on the safety/degassing concerns. As I have come to learn, if you don’t use a vacuum pump and chamber to remove gas from the silicone, microbubbles will form in the material. This should be fine if a) they’re not on the exterior surface of the toy, and b) you’re incredibly diligent about cleaning practices before and after use with the finished product. That said, it does mean there’s a higher risk of creating faux-porosity in the toy, and as we all know porous sex toys are a no no. Should be fine isn't good enough around these parts. All silicone used for our toy making is body-safe platinum silicone from Smooth-On, mixed with body-safe pigments (Smooth-On's SilcPig series), and thoroughly degassed to ensure safety.
